How it works

 

Childhood should be the time we make some of our happiest memories. Those of us fortunate enough to have grown up in loving families may remember birthdays surrounded by relatives and friends, cakes and presents. Most importantly of all, we felt special, celebrated, and loved.

For children growing up in orphanages, though, birthdays are no different to any other day. Sometimes these children don’t even know the date they were born. There is nothing to celebrate and no one to celebrate with.

Pledge your birthday, wedding, anniversary, Eid celebration, moving day or any other special occasion by asking for donations instead of gifts, and help ensure all children have something worth celebrating: a loving family.

    The first step is to pledge your special day using the form above—it’s that simple. Maybe you know someone who wants to pledge their special day but needs a bit of help; like your daughter, son or even your grandparents! You can use the form to pledge on their behalf.  

  • Spread the word

    Once you’ve hit the pledge button, we’ll be in touch to help you spread the word and ask for donations instead of gifts from your loved ones. We can help you set up a Facebook fundraising page, a JustGiving page, or help you with other fundraising ideas like throwing a good old-fashioned party.  

  • Give children a family

    The money raised from your pledge will help ensure all children get the chance to grow up in the love and protection of family, never orphanages.

    It costs on average £600 to help a vulnerable family stay together when they face challenges like poverty, disability or discrimination.

    Reunite families,
    helping children like Georgi come back to the people they belong with.

    It costs on average £1,140 to rescue a child from an orphanage and reunite them with their own family, supported to stay together.

  • Uwera

    Build new families,
    giving children like Uwera a place to belong and someone to love them.

    It costs on average £1,680 to provide a child from an orphanage with a new family, and support them to stay together.

The best gift for Minela

 

Minela spent the first precious months of her life alone in an orphanage with no one to comfort her, cuddle her or cherish her.

Her mum, Lana, was desperate to care for her but she could see no way to provide for her baby without support. “My soul was torn apart”, she told us.

By giving Lana the extra help she needed to find work, a flat and a nursery place for Minela, our team in Bosnia & Herzegovina made it possible for Minela to be reunited with her mum. Minela came home from the orphanage on her first birthday, just in time to celebrate as every child should, with a family to let her know that she is special, she is loved and she belongs.
